So, three
days spent (mostly) out of the harness for me and getting stuck into the practical,
technical and rigging conundrum that is shift.
There’s a lot to solve. The rigging is complex for a touring production.
I’d estimate that there’s several hundred metres of rope, 20+
pulley points and currently 23 planks each of which has its own journey throughout
the show.
Sunday was spent trying to come to terms with quite how much we had to achieve
over the three days and then getting stuck in.
Monday - cut to Jonothan walking around with his head in his hands (a lot),
Mish juggling budgets and rethinking design elements, Marcia adding to an
ever-increasing shopping and ‘to do’ list, Mickie attempting to
resolve how to light the show with nowhere to rig his lanterns and (Dr) Kevin
getting his head around just quite how tight the production schedule is for
him to create the linking transitions with the full company.
Tuesday - Mish, Marcia, Jonothan and myself staggered through the set and
rigging transitions and I have to say although knackered were pleasantly surprised
at quite how much progress we’d made in a short space of time.
No time to relax though, there’s still ropes to be spliced, planks to
be treated, new metal plates to be engineered, sandbags to be sourced, venues
to be contacted, bank managers to be coerced, programmes to be written, equipment
to be begged and borrowed and probably loads of other stuff I’ve doubtless
forgotten to do, oh, and another week of rehearsal with Charlotte!
