Well, we’ve
just finished pre-production week of mostly twelve hour days and have a day
to gather ourselves/sleep before launching into the production week (well,
three days) and tour - eek!
By 9pm on Saturday everyone looked exhausted, either verging on hysteria or
tears, but still attempting to stay calm and focused, whilst trying to work
out how to crowbar more hours into the day.
shift
continues to evolve; counts changing, choreography and music shifting to accommodate
each other and then trying to figure out how we practically move from one
piece into another which is where Kevin (Finnan) comes in.
The set and rigging transition from Charlie’s piece to Steve and Luke’s
has the potential of turning into an enormous piece of knitting gone hideously
wrong. There are so many ropes, pulleys, knots to negotiate under Jonothan's
supervision and Kevin is supposed to make the whole thing eminently watchable
whilst ensuring that no one gets garrotted and that the audience aren’t
left waiting ten minutes for the next piece to happen. Of course, we could
just send everyone out to the bar but we reckon that’s a cop out!!!
It is great to see the whole production taking shape though and I keep finding
myself surprised when I realise how many people are working incredibly hard
to make this project happen. It feels like such a team effort from all involved.
I’m humbled and I might just cry…
