Monday 14th
April - must be Cardiff then, can’t believe we’re on our 4th venue
of the tour already, Newbury, Nottingham, Poole, where did the time go?
Newbury and the build up to opening was as expected pretty stressful needing
more time for everything, more rehearsal, more lighting and rigging time,
trying to find time to eat and definitely more time to sleep!
Still we did open
on time to a very warm reception, lots of support from friends and the wonderful
crew in Newbury - huge sighs of relief all round and then oh my God we’ve
got to try and do the whole thing again tomorrow.
Onto Nottingham which I think went well, lovely venue and crew but to be honest
a bit of a blur since I contracted a gastric virus which meant that I slept
for most of the time, woke up, did a show, almost passed out, then went straight
back to sleep. Ah, the glamour of life on the road….
Poole was a challenge. After playing fairly intimate ‘black box’
type venues the Lighthouse was a vast white concert hall. Marcia (Production
Manager) was really worried about how the lighting would transfer to this
environment and was found frantically texting Mickie (Lighting Designer).
After the first show though she was delighted, declaring that we should always
work against a white cyc because the shadows were amazing and added a whole
other dimension to the show. Actually there was a lot of audience feedback
about how much they’d enjoyed the shadows - you never can tell how it’s
going to pan out.
And so onto a new venue and a new set of challenges. Already wondering how
the folks who are allegedly attending from ‘No Fit State’ Circus
will respond to the line in Charlotte's piece about new circus nonsense -
reckon this might be Guy’s first experience of being heckled...
