Have been
enjoying the making process of creating the as yet untitled duet. Have the
feeling that Charlie has been feeling out the prospects of what might be done
from the end of a rope as support or lever with Lindsey spending more time
than myself off the floor. Some thing very sane and measured about the day
to day rehearsal time. have been appreciating Charlie's studio protocol, as
he dosen't seem to get all freaked out by one thing or another, and gets on
with the job at hand, without a lot of fuss or emotional//ego baggage. Pedestrian
is not the right word, but there seems to be a value in not throwing a lot
of unnecessary (dancerly) shapes just for the sake of it. That said, I have
been having embodied movement experience all along.
There seems to be a value towards using alternative country musics for accompaniment.
I keep flashing on the image of 'American Gothic' whilst rehearsing. Something
about the pragmatism of what Lindsey and I are doing together. Much of my
responsibility so far is making sure I stay alert while Lindsey is off the
floor, as I am often on the floor/bench acting as a counter balance for her
on the opposite end of the same rope. It's been some time since I worked with
this kind of 'kit', and there are times when it all seems like a big kerfuffle
just to get the set and all the ropes, gregorys, pulleys, harnesses and what-all
together in order to proceed.
There is one part of the piece that involves Lindsey being flown up into the
air that we haven't been able to sequence yet, as it needs a rigger to sort
it out for us, so we just kind of stop at that point and Linsey climbs up
the set, in order to proceed with the run. However, I am enjoying the effects
that can be produced by the apparatus when it's all said and done, and am
looking forward to the effects production will have in the work.
