Well, we’re
now two weeks into Charlotte’s rehearsals and as usual with Charlotte
there are as many questions as there are answers. It’s great to be working
with her again and since the publicity blurb describes her work as intensely
physical - well, then I only have myself to blame!
Since Scott’s away in the States currently it’s just me and the
three feisty, energetic and, yep ok, younger, livelier members of the company,
(Vanessa, Jen and Guy) and believe me there’ve been more than a few
moments in the last week when I’ve felt my age; not so much the Grande
Dame, more the OAP. There’s also been more than a few encounters with
unruly planks (cheers Mish) and I’m sure there are more to come before
we learn to work together - that’s the joy of working with objects and
gravity: you’re never gonna win if you try to fight it.
On that note, it’s been interesting to watch the dancers learning to
negotiate complex shifts of weight whilst partnering and dealing with kit,
rigging and uneven or unstable surfaces, there’s so much information
to process in a split second and within that Charlotte continues to push people
beyond their usual practice - all good stuff but never enough time in the
day!
